
LNT Marine is a market leader within spray foam insulation systems for various types of gas carriers. We supply complete insulation systems including all engineering, material, labour and project management during insulation.
The purpose of the insulation system is to minimize boil off rate by limiting the heat ingress. LNT Marine offers alternative insulation systems for IMO type C tanks. All with unique properties for use in different environments with different surface materials to optimize the function of the system. A LNG deck tank and a LNG cargo tank in a controlled atmosphere are exposed for very different condition and requires different properties of the surface for optimal function.
All systems are fully bonded spray foam insulation systems tailormade and optimized for the client’s needs and have the same basic thermal insulation design based on spray foam with variable densities and two layers of imbedded crack barriers. The insulation is flexible enough to follow the tanks contraction and expansion. There is no space for accumulation of moisture between containment structure and insulation, and there are no through-going joints. This has proven to be the most efficient insulation system and requires no maintenance.

Moss type repair and upgrades.
LNT Marine has experience and class approvals for repair and upgrade of the insulation on Moss type LNG carriers. With the insulation system upgrade the boil off rate (BOR) can be significantly reduced.
For such a project the existing insulation would be repaired. All through-going cracks would be repaired to seal the damaged original insulation. The original combined vapor barrier and spray shield would typically be removed and replaced by a reinforced layer of polyurethane foam and a specially developed cryogenic polymeric coating. The amount thickness of new polyurethane foam depends on required BOR, and BOR after upgrade is subject to size of the vessel and condition of the original insulation.
